Review of 3 PACK Samsung DA29-00003B Replacement Filters

I purchased these to replace the OEM filters that I have been spending $45 a piece on at Lowes. Everything I read about these filters indicated longer life and obviously a MUCH better value from a cost perspective. They were well packaged and fit perfectly. The only thing is a slightly 'off' plastic taste. As I do with OEM filters I flushed several gallons through the filter before using any of the water. Still, there was this persistent bitter plastic taste. After running several more gallons through it the taste began to diminish and has become less noticeable over time. I have used dozens of filter / softener technologies over the last 20 years and this is the first time I have had this taste perception issue. I willl have to see what the next filter is like in several months to determine if I will purchase again.

Review of Whirlpool 4396508 Replacement Filter by Water Sentinel

I have a Whirlpool side by side.They could give them away for free and just charge for the repairs and do OK.The fridge is four years old and has had the ice maker replaced (an extremely poorly designed gear), and also had to have a new main circuit board (a short circuit due to faulty board design).Add to the high cost of the parts the rich cost of the service man.Yikes - those two items came to close to the price of the fridge.

Then there is the Official Water Filter Profit Center!Amazing how they design these filters so the whole filter, not just the internals, has to be replaced.The water here is very good but the filter light goes off in about six months.Now I ignore the light for months.

A buck a week for replacement filters is intolerable.

Another Official Profit Center:The water filter pricing reminds me of the "bargain" range hood filters that need frequent replacement at $30 to $50 a pop.Better to get the hood with a washable filter!

Ibet our Asian friends are taking notes of customer comments like this one.I prefer to buy American but not when I get the short end of the stick repeatedly.

Money doesn't grow on trees, appliance people.

I have no problem with this over the past several years. Review of LG LT600P 5231JA2006A 2 Pack Water Filter (5231JA2006B)

The price on this item appears to have gone up by about $20.00 in the last two weeks.These are the same exact filters sold by Sears for use in their high-end Kenmore Elite's (built by LG in 2005).I compared build, quality, part number, and packaging.However, when I purchased them they were about half the price compared to sears (I bought a two-pack).

Installation is via a simple twist-lock method.So, if you are replacing the filter for the first time, simply push and twist to remove and push and twit to install.Do not call Sears to do this.They charge a significant fee.For those who have a whole house water filtration system, or an inline (to refrigerator) filtration system (I use a Culligan good water reverse osmosis), the filters should last TWICE as long at the least.I have had many people argue that I do not need a water filter at the refrigerator if I have another system in place.I disagree.I like the idea of a backup in case of equipment failure.

Review of Brita Refrigerator Replacement Filters GE

I decided to replace the original filter on my GE refrigerator after about 10 months when the "change filter" light came on. I went to the local hardware store and found a replacement for $49 plus tax. It seemed expensive, so I decided to check Amazon instead and found these along with the OEM GE filters.
I was reluctant to try a filter other than the GE just to save a few bucks, but if they are identical, why waste money? Besides, Brita is probably better known than GE for filters. Anyway, the filter looks, fits and works just like the original. I have noticed no difference in water flow or noise. The water tastes clean and looks clear.
One note - as per the instructions you should pre-fill the filter at the tap before installation and then run about 10 glasses of water through the new filter before use to stabilize the flow.
As for the vendor - Fridge Filters, I found that you cannot track their packages online as you can with most things purchased from Amazon, but the filter arrived in Florida 4 days after my order was placed. I gave the product and the vendor 5 stars, not that I get particularly excited about a water filter, but there were no negatives to take a star away.

If the consumer uses one gallon of water per day in the form of water from the refrigerator dispenser and ice from the ice dispenser, the filter will last 750 days; i.e., just over TWO years. In general, there is no reason to replace the filter yearly, unless you have a really yuccky water source.

In a small household of two adults, the filter should last considerably longer than two years. Furthermore, with the addition of a filtered water dispenser at the sink (such as a GE undercounter unit), the refrigerator filter would be functional for a few years. The undercounter units have a quite large capacity and some use two filter cartridges.

Review of Whirlpool 4396710P PUR Side-by-Side Refrigerator Push Button Cyst Reducing Water Filter, 2-Pack

I have a Kenmore refrigerator form Sears that I bought about a year and a half ago. Kenmore is actually made by Whirlpool and although the filter this replaced was labeled Kenmore, this is the exact same filter but labeled Whirlpool instead. I looked it up on the Sears site and they wanted $50 for the same filter. The price is a steal and even though it says 6 months I used it for over a year since I have soft water in my house and only one person. My fridge has a 6 month built in timer that goes from green to orange to red when the 6 months is up. I thought it might be based on actual usage, but it's not, because it went red at exactly 6 months and I use far less water than most other households. I have no idea why more time would harm a filter, as far as I'm concerned it's just a marketing tactic to get you to buy them more often then needed, like oil changes every 3,000 miles.

Review of PUR PBSS Push-Button Refrigerator Ice and Water Filter Cartridge

If you go to PUR's website, you'll find that this filter handles only 4 problem areas: (chlorine, sediment, lead, o-dichlorobenzene).

The more expensive #4396710 Kitchenaid/Whirlpool deals with 11 problem areas (the side of the box lists all these in detail: (chlorine, particulates, lead, mercury, benzene, o-dichlorobenzene, toxaphene, asbestos, cysts, turbidity, atrazine).

The strange thing is that the PUR website only seems to show the cheaper filter and its attendant 4 areas of filtering. It may just be my ineptness, but I couldn't find the other better filter on their website.

My wife, wanting the best water, always opts for the more expensive filter. It's around $60 in local area markets. I just ordered one from Amazon a couple of weeks ago for $35 delivered; other internet dealers carry it for around the same price.
